Fried Marinated Tofu

My savory Marinated Fried Tofu is the perfect prepared plant-based protein for many of my favorite vegetarian Vietnamese dishes. I love it with bánh hỏi, over steamed rice, in fresh spring rolls, noodle soups, and sometimes I even chopped up the tofu and make delicious fried rice with it. One time, I even added it to an In-N-Out Grilled Cheese and it was pretty yum too! This tasty fried tofu goodness literally will be good on anything and a must-try!

Ingredients:
1 14-ounce Block Firm Tofu, sliced
3 tablespoons vegetarian oyster sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon warm water
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon dark soy sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon pepper
4 garlic cloves, smashed and chopped
2 green onions, chopped
Oil for frying

Steps:

Marinate Tofu – In a shallow pan, marinate tofu in vegetarian oyster sauce, soy sauce, warm water, sugar, dark soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and chopped green onions for at least 4 hours in the refrigerator, preferably overnight.

Fry Tofu – Add oil to a skillet and pan fry tofu in a skillet over medium to medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes a side until tofu is brown and crispy.

Tips:

  • Firm tofu works best. Even better if you get tofu fresh from a tofu shop if it’s available in your area.
  • Frying time depends on how how your stove top gets, monitor and adjust as needed.
  • Air frying works great too!
