The Double Decker has always been one of my favorite Taco Bell menu items of all time. So much yummy textures in every bite. It recently came back for a short time and left me again. All good though, because we can make it at home anytime now so I don’t have to ever miss it anymore. It’s pretty easy too!
However, if you don’t want to make it at home and want to do a Taco Bell Hack, this is what you do…Order 1 soft taco sub beans for beef with no toppings, and a crunchy taco. Open up the soft taco and put the crunchy taco inside. Boom! Double Decker Taco.

Ingredients:
1 pound Seasoned Ground Taco Meat
1 can refried beans
6-8 crunchy taco shells
6-8 8-inch flour tortilla
Shredded lettuce
Shredded cheese
Seasoned Ground Taco Meat Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1 cup water
¼ cup AP Flour
⅓ cup taco seasoning, more to taste (I used Kinder’s Taco Seasoning Blend)
¼ large onion, finely minced
Steps:
Make Seasoned Ground Taco Meat – In a medium bowl, combine the ground beef with flour and taco seasoning. Add the seasoned beef mixture to the water in a wok/skillet over medium heat. Mix well and break up the meat as it cooks. Cook for about 10 minutes until meat is cooked through.
Prepare Double Decker Tacos – Spread each flour tortilla with about 2 tablespoons of refried beans. Wrap the tortilla gently around a crisp tortilla shell. Fill tortilla shell with about 2 tablespoons of ground taco meat, and sprinkle the top of the meat with shredded lettuce and shredded cheese.
Tips:
- Bake crunchy taco shells in the oven for about 5 minutes to warm and wake up stale crunchy taco shells.
- Add whatever taco toppings you like!
